History

HistoryThe Health Foundation of Greater Massillon (HFM) was formed when Massillon Community Hospital and Akron General Medical Center entered into a joint venture in 1999. Both health care facilities expressed
interest on behalf of the Massillon Community and greater Western Stark County in developing a foundation that would provide funds targeted to
programs and projects related to health and wellness. On June 1, 1999, the Health Foundation of Greater Massillon opened its doors to serve all of greater Western Stark County.

In carrying out the intent of the foundation, the Board of Directors embarked upon developing a strategic plan. Strategic planning is the process which an organization envisions its future and develops the necessary procedures and operations to achieve that future. The development of a strategic vision with a review of the mission was accomplished to reflect the Board’s holistic and operational direction. Strategic goals were formulated and operational plans supporting the goals were developed.

Utilizing this plan, the Foundation Board will focus its efforts and resources on health and wellness issues facing Greater Stark County, particularly involving those in need. The Health Foundation of Greater Massillon is vital in its role of supporting these programs and initiatives, which in turn improves the quality of life in the community.
